How to Use MT4 Build 1441 and Disable Auto-Update

Many Expert Advisors (EAs) encounter errors or fail to run on the latest MetaTrader 4 terminal versions. The most stable solution is to use Build 1441. However, MT4 is designed to update itself automatically, which can break your trading setup.

This guide will show you how to replace your terminal file and "lock" the version to prevent unwanted updates.

1. Replace the Terminal.exe File

The first step is to replace your primary MT4 execution file:

  • Make sure your MetaTrader 4 application is completely closed.

  • Open your MT4 installation directory (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\...).

  • Delete or move the old terminal.exe.

  • Paste the terminal.exe version 4.00 build 1441 file into the folder.

  • IMPORTANT: Do not launch the application yet.

2. Disabling Auto-Update (Mandatory Step)

To keep the terminal on Build 1441 and prevent it from forcing a new update, follow these steps:

  • Press Windows + R on your keyboard, type %appdata%, and press Enter.

  • Navigate to the following path: MetaQuotes > WebInstall.

  • Inside this folder, look for a folder named mt4clw.

  • Right-click and Rename it to mt4clw - not use (as shown in the attached image).

Recommended Brokers & VPS for Expert Advisors (EA)

For the best results when running an EA, broker choice and VPS quality are essential:

🏆 THE #1 BROKER FOR EAs (Raw Spreads)

⚡️ LIGHTNING-FAST EXECUTION & BONUSES

💻 PRO-GRADE LOW LATENCY VPS (Essential)

🇮🇩 BEST BUDGET LOCAL VPS (Indonesia)

Conclusion

By renaming the WebInstall folder, the MT4 terminal will be unable to download any new update files from the MetaQuotes servers. You can now safely run MT4 Build 1441, ensuring your EAs function correctly without any auto-update interruptions.
